Sauvignon Blanc is a French white grape, one parent is Savagnin Blanc, the other unrecorded, grown worldwide from the Loire Valley to Marlborough. In California it is a major, and growing, planting: bearing acreage climbed from 10,807 acres in 2000 to 16,728 acres in the latest report, with 17,975 total acres logged for 2025, spread across 38 counties, more counties than almost any other variety in the state. It is grown here in styles ranging from crisp and herbaceous to riper and barrel-aged, and it is often bottled under the Fume Blanc name as well as its own.
