Malvasia Bianca

White wine grape · reported 2000–2025

Further reading: VIVC catalog entry

Malvasia Bianca is an Italian white grape, part of the broad Malvasia family and, per the atlas's registry match, related to Sciaccarello, traditionally used for aromatic, sometimes lightly sweet white wine. California's numbers show a sharp decline from an earlier peak: bearing acreage has fallen from 2,450 acres in 2000 to 732 acres in the latest report, though it still spans 20 counties. It is grown here mainly for its perfumed, Muscat-adjacent character, often finished with some residual sweetness for easy-drinking white bottlings.

What is published

Counts describe what this atlas holds for Malvasia Bianca, not what California grows. A zero is a published answer: it means the source names the grape and reports nothing under it, or does not name it at all.
