Valdiguie

Red wine grape · reported 2021–2025

Further reading: VIVC catalog entry

Valdiguié is a French red once planted across California under the name "Napa Gamay," a mislabeling corrected only after DNA testing showed it was unrelated to true Gamay. The atlas's own acreage series for this exact varietal name begins in 2021, reaching 220 acres by 2025 across twelve counties from Mendocino to Santa Barbara, with 211 bearing acres and one registered grower. Crush volumes have grown quickly, hitting about 1,111 tons in 2025 alone, though the CDFA crush series itself starts in 2021 too. It makes a light, fruity, low-tannin red suited to easy, chillable styles.

What is published

Counts describe what this atlas holds for Valdiguie, not what California grows. A zero is a published answer: it means the source names the grape and reports nothing under it, or does not name it at all.

Growers in this atlas's roster

5 of this atlas’s 2772 curated producers, 4 of them with a named wine in the atlas made from it. A roster is not a census — this is who the atlas has entered, not who grows the grape in California.

Measured chemistry, from one producer's own sheets

1 wine from 1 producer, each read from that producer’s own tech sheet and linked to it. No average is shown, and none should be computed from these. Wineries that publish tech sheets are selected by their own marketing departments, so a mean across them describes publishing habits rather than a grape.
