Gewurztraminer

White wine grape · reported 2000–2025

Further reading: VIVC catalog entry

Gewurztraminer is an aromatic pink-skinned mutation of Savagnin, a German-associated grape used in Alsace for intensely perfumed, often off-dry white wine. California's numbers show a steady decline: bearing acreage has fallen from 1,400 acres in 2000 to 848 acres in the latest report, spread across 22 counties. It is grown here mainly in cooler regions for its lychee-and-rose-petal aromatics, bottled in styles ranging from dry to noticeably sweet, and it is reported in the state's cooler wine regions each vintage.

What is published

Counts describe what this atlas holds for Gewurztraminer, not what California grows. A zero is a published answer: it means the source names the grape and reports nothing under it, or does not name it at all.
