Editorial profile
Larkmead Vineyards farms a 115-acre estate in Calistoga, at the north end of Napa Valley, and has been under vine since the mid-1800s. Founded in 1895, the estate has been in the hands of the Solari family since 1948, and the current lineup is built around estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, both as a broad estate bottling and in the single-block Solari, The Lark and Dr Olmo selections.
Firebelle, a Bordeaux-style red blend prominently featuring Merlot, and the occasional LMV Salon red blend round out the reds. Three whites diversify the portfolio: Lillie Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Estate Tocai Friulano and Estate Chenin Blanc, planted on the estate's varied hillside-like soils of ancient riverbed gravel, clay and loam. The vineyard is farmed organically under viticulturist Kelly Maher and vineyard manager Nabor Camerena.
