Editorial profile
Galleano Winery, founded in 1927 by Domenico Galleano and bonded in 1933, is the last remaining bonded, Prohibition-era winery still owned and operated by its founding family at its original location in the Cucamonga Valley — the once-vast (45,000-acre, ~60-winery) Los Angeles-basin wine region that Prohibition, Pierce's disease and suburban development have reduced to a handful of survivors.
The winery, in Mira Loma/Jurupa Valley, is now run by fourth-generation winemaker Domenic Bernard Galleano. Its list runs to the region's historic strengths: old-style Zinfandel (a rosé and a red bottling), a Cucamonga Valley Palomino white, and a run of port- and sherry-style dessert wines that trace directly to the valley's pre-Prohibition fortified-wine trade.
