Lagrein

Red wine grape · reported 2000–2025

Further reading: VIVC catalog entry

Lagrein is an Italian variety from Alto Adige, VIVC-recorded as a cross of Schiava Gentile and Teroldego. California's bearing acreage has grown modestly, from 59 acres five years ago to 73 in 2025, spread across 10 counties but heavily concentrated: San Luis Obispo holds 64 percent of the statewide total, with Sacramento next. It is a dark, tannic Alpine red. In California it remains a small specialty planting rather than a mainstream variety.

What is published

Counts describe what this atlas holds for Lagrein, not what California grows. A zero is a published answer: it means the source names the grape and reports nothing under it, or does not name it at all.
