Durif

Red wine grape · reported 2000–2025

Further reading: VIVC catalog entry

Durif is a French variety, a cross of Syrah and Peloursin, and the same crossing responsible for most vines California calls Petite Sirah. Under this specific name, its California footprint is tiny: 53 bearing acres as of 2024, the most recent year reported, spread across just 7 counties, led by San Luis Obispo and Sonoma. It is a deeply colored, tannic red. Most California vines of this parentage are recorded separately in the atlas under Petite Sirah rather than Durif.

What is published

Counts describe what this atlas holds for Durif, not what California grows. A zero is a published answer: it means the source names the grape and reports nothing under it, or does not name it at all.
