Editorial profile
Spottswoode is a family-owned estate on the western edge of St. Helena, in Napa Valley, where the Novak family has grown winegrapes since 1972 and made its own wine since 1982. The Estate Vineyard sits on alluvial clay loam off the Sulphur Creek fan, cooled by maritime breezes funneling between Spring Mountain and the Mayacamas, and has been farmed organically since 1985 (CCOF certified 1992), now also biodynamically and regeneratively certified.
Cabernet Sauvignon is the estate's core: the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon anchors the lineup, with Lyndenhurst drawing on the estate plus other family-owned Napa Valley vineyards for a wider expression of the variety. Two Field Book bottlings, launched in 2007, draw on individual heritage vineyard sites, and Spottswoode has produced Sauvignon Blanc since 1984.
