Editorial profile
Outpost farms an estate on Howell Mountain, above the Napa Valley fog line, where a vineyard first planted in the 1860s was replanted in the mid-1970s and again under the Outpost label, established in 1998. The high-elevation site's rocky red soil and mountain exposure center the portfolio on Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon, including a "True Vineyard" designate and an Estate Reserve bottling of the latter, alongside Grenache and a Chardonnay, "La Blonde." "True Vineyard" Immigrant rounds out the reds as a proprietary-named bottling. The estate has been part of AXA Millésimes' Napa Valley holdings since 2018.
