Editorial profile

Kathryn Kennedy Winery is a small Cabernet Sauvignon specialist in Saratoga, on the inland side of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Kathryn Kennedy planted eight acres of own-rooted Cabernet Sauvignon on her Saratoga property in 1973 and established the winery and brand in 1979, becoming one of the first California wineries to bear a woman's name; from 1979 to 1988 it produced only its Estate Cabernet, which remains the flagship, limited to roughly 600 cases a year and bottled under Kennedy's signature silver-and-black label.

The estate vineyard, reduced by residential development to under an acre, was certified organic by CCOF in 2007. Marty Mathis, named winemaker at 22 and later company president, has led winemaking since; the current lineup adds a broader Small Lot Cabernet drawn from Santa Cruz Mountains sites and a Sauvignon Blanc.

3 of 3 wines link to the page they were read from. The list is what a producer publishes about itself, one citation at a time — it is not a catalog, and a wine missing from it is uncurated rather than unmade.
