St. Emilion is California's traditional name for Ugni Blanc, also known as Trebbiano, a neutral, high-yielding white grape long used in the state for brandy production rather than table wine. California's numbers show a long decline: bearing acreage has fallen from 375 acres in 2000 to 92 acres in the latest report, spread across 12 counties, and no UC Davis Foundation Plant Services registry entry exists for it under this name. It survives mainly as a brandy-industry grape, valued for high acid and neutral flavor rather than as a wine varietal in its own right.
