Rubired is a California-bred teinturier, developed at UC Davis by crossing Alicante Ganzin with Tinto Cao specifically to produce deep, stable red color for blending and juice. It has held its ground in the state's numbers better than most color grapes: bearing acreage stood at 10,842 acres in 2000 and remains substantial at 9,202 acres in the latest report, concentrated in just 12 counties, a real, large-scale commercial planting. FPS lists it for both juice and wine use, and it functions almost entirely as a color-adding blending grape rather than a standalone wine.

What is published
Counts describe what this atlas holds for Rubired, not what California grows. A zero is a published answer: it means the source names the grape and reports nothing under it, or does not name it at all.
