Other Red Wine

Red wine grape · reported 2000–2025

"Other Red Wine" is not a grape — it is a CDFA reporting bucket for red wine varieties too small individually to warrant their own line in the state's crush and acreage reports. The category is far from trivial in aggregate: it shows 6,144 acres statewide in 2025, up from about 1,078 acres when the ledger's records begin, spread across 45 counties from Napa to Riverside. Crush reporting under this exact bucket only appears for 2022–2025, with 2025 alone totaling roughly 7,247 tons crushed. It is best read as a catch-all measure of California's long tail of minor red varieties, not any single wine.

What kind of grape this is

Other Red Wine is a reporting category rather than a grape — CDFA sums the varieties too small to name individually under it. There is no botanical identity to publish for a heading, and inventing one would turn a sum into a cultivar.

What is published

Counts describe what this atlas holds for Other Red Wine, not what California grows. A zero is a published answer: it means the source names the grape and reports nothing under it, or does not name it at all.
