Muscat of Alexandria is one of the oldest cultivated grapes in the world, an ancient Greek-origin Muscat used interchangeably in California for wine, table grapes, and raisins, FPS lists all three uses for it. The state's numbers show a long, gentle decline: bearing acreage has fallen from 4,744 acres in 2000 to 3,766 acres in the latest report, still spread across 20 counties. Its intensely floral, musky aromatics make it a natural for sweet and off-dry white wines, though much of the state's crop likely goes to the table and raisin markets rather than the winery.

Counts describe what this atlas holds for Muscat Of Alexandria, not what California grows. A zero is a published answer: it means the source names the grape and reports nothing under it, or does not name it at all.
