Dolcetto is an Italian variety from Piedmont, VIVC-recorded as a cross of Dolcetto Bianco and Moissan. California's bearing acreage has fallen by half since 2000, from 159 to 80 acres in 2025, spread across 18 counties led by San Joaquin, Mendocino, and Santa Barbara. It is a soft, low-acid, early-ripening red made in its home region as an everyday wine. In California it has become a small and steadily shrinking planting.
