Editorial profile

Realm Cellars is a Napa Valley producer built around Cabernet Sauvignon, split between proprietary-named blends and single-vineyard estate wines. The flagship, The Bard, is a Cabernet Sauvignon-based Napa Valley blend that draws from Coombsville to Calistoga, its supporting varietals — Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petite Sirah and occasionally Charbono — shifting by vintage; sibling proprietary wines The Tempest, The Absurd, Fidelio and Heavenly Questions each carry their own name and label story.

The estate program includes Houyi Vineyard, an estate single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon acquired near the top of Pritchard Hill; Moonracer, from an estate vineyard on the Silverado Trail currently being redeveloped and replanted; Farella, from a partner vineyard in the Coombsville AVA; and Hartwell XX, an estate Cabernet Sauvignon from a small parcel atop Wappo Hill on Realm's Stags Leap District property. A trio of Beckstoffer single-vineyard Cabernets — To Kalon (Oakville), Dr. Crane (St. Helena) and Bourn (west St. Helena, being replanted to mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with some old-vine Petite Sirah) — rounds out the single-vineyard tier. Several bottlings' precise varietal percentages are not disclosed on the winery's own pages.
