Editorial profile

Far Niente is an Oakville estate winery with a history dating to 1885, focused on two varietals: Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Its Napa Valley Chardonnay, first produced in 1981, is the winery's benchmark wine, made in a cool-climate style intended to age.

Its Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon anchors the estate's red wine program, and select older vintages are re-released in limited quantities as the Cave Collection, aged in the estate's historic caves. Far Niente is part of the Far Niente Wine Estates family, which also includes Nickel & Nickel, Bella Union, Post & Beam, EnRoute, and Dolce, but its own winery and wines are the subject of this profile.
